HyperSAR (HSI + SAR) This hybrid sensor combines the technical advantages of two fundamentally different sensor technologies.
Representing an innovative and highly complementary hybrid sensor solution for aerial vehicle ISR applications, HyperSAR combines the passive hyperspectral imaging (HSI) with an active synthetic aperture radar (SAR). The result is a dual mode sensor system that combines state-of-the-art SAR all-weather, day/night target detection with enhanced HSI target identification for such applications as human/vehicle detection and tracking, buried mine detection, counter terrorism, and ISR with enhanced counter spoofing and camouflage penetration capabilities.
Combining HSI and SAR into the HyperSAR sensor results in a sensor system that takes advantage of the fact that countermeasures to active radar systems tends to increase passive HSI signatures and vice-versa. HSI and SAR sensors operating in tandem produce an overall sensor system capability much greater than the sensor components operating separately. This is the design philosophy driving the HyperSAR concept.
